Leon Oosthuizen is a Cape Town-based commercial photographer, also presenting photographic workshops, photo walks and tailored photographic courses. Oosthuizen's curious mind and range of diverse interests informs and finds expression in the wide variety of subjects he photographs. This includes portraits, architecture, products, street, nature and weddings.
Technically astute and creatively driven, Oosthuizen has been shooting with Fujifilm for five years. Besides the accurate film simulations, incredibly sharp lenses and Kaizen-driven firmware updates, his favourite feature of the Fujifilm mirrorless system is the tactile user interface. This includes how the mechanical hands-on operation, customisable functions and electronic viewfinder seamlessly play together to serve the greater purpose of an unhindered creative process.
When it comes to his photographic influences, Leon's heroes include Josef Koudelka, Elliott Erwitt, Bill Brandt, David Goldblatt, Irving Penn, Sam Jones and Obie Oberholzer. Therefore, it’s easy to see why he loves street photography and documentary work, especially if it can happen at a 1/15th of a second.
